Online workshop: How to build an IP telephony network

The SAS IP telephony workshop has been designed for IT and telecoms managers who need to gain a technical understanding of how to develop, integrate and deploy a converged IP network.

Over the course of three intensive modules we take you through the core components of IPT and tell you about the technical options available for your network. We also walk you through the process of integrating IPT within your existing environment and discuss essential interfaces and interdependencies that must be factored into your project.

Finally, we show you how to implement IPT across single, multi-site, home and mobile network environments, and provide you with project recommendations for testing, migrating and supporting your new IP infrastructure.

As part of our workshop presentation, you can also view an on-demand demonstration of Cisco’s soft phone technology.

The SAS IP telephony workshop is presented by Simon Cranford, chief information officer for the SAS Group. All SAS web events are available to view free-of-charge.

Part 1: The build - IPT core components

This module examines the technical components required for a converged voice and data infrastructure, outlining how these differ from those used in traditional networks and discussing the technology options currently available on the market.

The integration - IPT interfaces and interdependencies

Module two explains how to integrate the IPT components and devices with an existing ICT environment, including local and wide area networks, and covers best practice approaches to systems support and management.

Part 3: The roadmap - IPT planning, migration and support

The third module illustrates how the requirements for IPT will vary according to the physical infrastructure of the business, and features deployment models for single and multi-site environments as well as accommodating mobile users and home workers. It also focuses on the key considerations for managing an IPT installation, including training, support, system maintenance and development.
